Update: all state museums closed until further notice

The Ministry of Health has just announced that All the museums in the capital will be closed to the public from tomorrow, March 12, and until further notice.

This includes the following museums:

  • Queen Sofia
  • Prado Museum
  • Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum
  • National Archaeological Museum
  • Sorolla Museum
  • Museum of America
  • Museum of Romanticism
  • National Museum of Decorative Arts
  • Cerralbo Museum
  • Anthropology National Museum
  • Costume Museum
  • Tobacco

The new measures adopted by the Government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, forces to modify the schedules and activities of the different museums and cultural centers of Madrid.

Other museums and cultural centers

TheNational Library of Spain temporarily closes its face-to-face public services as well as all cultural activities until further notice.

Mapfre Foundation: has confirmed the closure of its two rooms in Madrid (located on Paseo de Recoletos and Calle Bárbara de Braganza) until March 26 included. The one in Barcelona works normally.

House of America: it has suspended all its public activities.

Cervantes Institutehas postponed its cultural programming until March 25, although it keeps the exhibition «As wise as it is courageous. Women and writing in the Golden Age », but with staggered access and minimum capacity.
